{ Hello }

Hello! My name is Zach Moo Young and I’m a senior here at Oberlin College majoring in psychology. I grew up moving all around the Cincinnati area (northern Kentucky and southwest Ohio) and to be honest, I would have never thought I’d attend college in a small town in Ohio. I’m so glad I did!

I actually visited here only to make sure I didn’t like it—so I wouldn’t have any regrets about going somewhere else. When I finally visited as a part of the Multicultural Visit Program, I fell in love with it. On my visit, I really got the sense that A) this place is weird, but B) these are some really smart people and C) they want to use their education to make a positive impact in the world. I hoped to be that type of person, so I knew Oberlin College was the place for me.

In the classroom, I have been challenged more than ever before, which is a good thing. I have found ways to think critically about things that I care about—with these skills I hope to help make a positive difference. Outside of the classroom, I play on the men’s basketball team and am a part of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. I also work with youngsters with the Du Bois Fraction Club and conduct independent research in what we call the Sociology of Sport as a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow.

During my time here I have developed new strengths and learned to think in a way I may not have learned anywhere else. My favorite part about Oberlin College though is the people. I have met some of the most interesting, thoughtful, funny, caring, and determined people here, and formed relationships that will last a lifetime.

I am passionate about my experiences here, so I’m looking forward to sharing some of my thoughts and stories with you all!

One of the perks of playing college basketball is that it can take you places you might not otherwise be able to go.

On the President

I've heard it can be cathartic to write, so I was thinking about writing on this year's presidential election.

"Oberlin College? Never heard of it..."

Honestly, when I was trying to decide on my post-high school plans, I never even thought about going to a school like Oberlin College.
