{ Things to do besides studying }

As the Oberlin College 1943 Freshman Handbook says, "The extent to which classes interfere with your education will annoy you more than once throughout your years in Oberlin." This is one of those truths that never changes. As you may be aware, exams are next week, so of course I've spent the majority of this weekend performing, or otherwise occupying my time with activities that will not help me pass my biochem final.

Friday and Saturday, I danced in the version of the Nutcracker that I talked about a long time ago. I was quite worried about the performance, especially after the dress rehearsal, but everything pulled together really well. I didn't get to see much (read: any) of the dances that I wasn't in, but from what I heard from other people, it went quite well. My main concern was the pas de deux that I coached. There was only ever one noticeable mistake, and it wasn't a botched lift, which was what I worried about the most. All-in-all, a success.

Then today, College Orchestra, or as we're called now, Oberlin Arts and Sciences Orchestra, had our concert. The name change is because we're in the process of becoming a chartered student organization, and so we need a name that won't be confusing for people trying to figure out what we actually are. (I guess.) We had what I think was our biggest audience ever, and then we had cake.

The rest of my time I've spent in Asia House's lounge, studying. Well, mostly studying. At two in the morning on Sunday, all studying had ceased. And as I write this now, I'm in the lounge and obviously not studying. Therefore, I think it's time for me to bid you adieu and return to the citric acid cycle.

Up later: my plans for Winter Term.

It's so important to stay busy with things besides studying, and it sounds like you've kept yourself involved in some really cool activities. Do you find the music majors at Oberlin do the same?

Maybe I'll ask some of them. Anyway, good post. If you're looking for some more things to do with your spare time, I have a whole bunch posted on my blog.

Enjoy your winter break,

Conservatory students definitely do the same. One of the great things about Oberlin is how integrated the Conservatory and the College are. I have friends from both, and we do the same things outside of (and sometimes including) the classes we take.

Zoe, what about other pics? I really liked the ballet group one.
