More holiday cheer (And a contest!)

Happy Holidays!

Though I've already blogged with a holiday theme, I have a follow-up post to Helena's blog with Oberlin carols!

Helena was gracious enough to sing two of my ridiculous carols, but I thought I would post all of the lyrics that I wrote here for your general amusement/entertainment.

Helena and I had so much fun making these videos that I didn't want to hog all the fun. If you feel so inclined, make a video of yourself singing these Obie-carols and I'll pick my favorites and include them in a future post!

One overall winner will win a personalized tour of Oberlin from yours truly, provided that you visit campus before I graduate and that I'm on campus when you plan to visit.

Bonus prospie points to anyone who is daring enough to record all 12 verses of "The 12 Days of Nondenominational Holiday Celebrations"!

The deadline for submission is 15 January. Think of it as extra procrastination from putting those finishing touches on your application. Or, think of it as a way to celebrate completing your application! Email the link to your video to pdoherty@oberlin.edu with the subject "Prospie Video Contest."

Have fun! Be creative! Who knows, maybe Helena will record another video during Winter Term...

The Twelve Days of Nondenominational Holiday Celebrations

On the twelfth day of nondenominational holiday celebrations my Obie gave to me:
Twelve Slow Train lattes
Eleven contra dancers
Ten free store mittens
Nine Mount Oberlin sledders
Eight freezing Californians
Seven overworked double-degree students
Six gender-neutral persons
Five albino squirrels
Four strange snow sculptures
Three fourth meal mozzarella sticks
Two co-op special meals
And a womb chair from Mudd library.

Warm Christmas
A lament for Southerners and Californians

I'm dreaming of a warm Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the sun is shining
And I'm not whining
Because there is no snow.

I'm dreaming of a warm Christmas
With every final that I take.
May your days be without snow storms
And may all your Christmases be warm.

Obie, It's Cold Outside
Two friends at the Feve

Obie A: I really can't stay
Obie B: But, Obie, it's cold outside
Obie A: I've got to go away
Obie B: But, Obie, it's cold outside
Obie A: This evening has been...
Obie B: Been hoping that you'd drop in
Obie A: ...so very nice
Obie B: I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice
Obie A: My roommate will start to worry
Obie B: Silly friend, what's your hurry
Obie A: My best friend will be pacing the floor
Obie B: Listen to the bartenders pour
Obie A: So really I'd better scurry
Obie B: Silly friend, please don't worry
Obie A: Well maybe just a half drink more
Obie B: Take your coat off, I'll get one more
Obie A: My roommate might think...
Obie B: But, Obie, it's bad out there
Obie A: Say, what's in this drink?
Obie B: No fun to be had out there
Obie A: I wish I knew how...
Obie B: Let's order some food right now
Obie A: ...to break this spell.
Obie B: I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
Obie A: I ought to say, I've got to go, friend
Obie B: That's not what I'd recommend
Obie A: At least I'm gonna say that I tried
Obie B: What's the sense of hurting my pride
Obie A: I really can't stay
Obie B: Obie, don't hold out
Both: Ah, but it's cold outside

Obie A: I simply must go
Obie B: But, Obie, it's cold outside
Obie A: The answer is no
Obie B: But, Obie, it's cold outside
Obie A: This welcome has been....
Obie B: How lucky that you dropped in
Obie A: ...so nice and warm
Obie B: Look out the window at that storm!
Obie A: My roommate will be suspicious
Obie B: Gosh, your tots look delicious
Obie A: My best friend will be there at the door
Obie B: Don't you just want a few more?
Obie A: My friends' minds truly are vicious
Obie B: Ooh, your tots are delicious
Obie A: Well maybe just a half drink more
Obie B: Never such a blizzard before!
Obie A: I've got to get home
Obie B: Obie, you'd freeze out there
Obie A: Say, lend me your coat
Obie B: It's up to your knees out there!
Obie A: It's really been grand
Obie B: Let's listen to the Feve band!
Obie A: But don't you see?
Obie B: Just stick around, please don't leave me!
Obie A: My professor will talk tomorrow
Obie B: Think of my life-long sorrow
Obie A: At least there will be plenty implied
Obie B: If you caught pneumonia and died
Obie A: I really can't stay
Obie B: Get over that hold out!
Both: Ah, but it's cold outside.

Frosty the Squirrel
Dedicated to our albino squirrels

Frosty the Squirrel rejects the status quo
With two beady eyes and a bushy tail, he's as white as the snow
Frosty the Squirrel is shrouded in a myth
Though he's white as snow no one knows how he came to be quite like this.

There might have been a chemical accident one day
But Bio students disagree, it's genetics they say!
Oh, Frosty the Squirrel lives in Tappan Square
And when people see him come and go they can't help but stare!

Frosty the Squirrel knew it would get cold one day
So he said let's run and have some fun before I go away.
Frolicking through Tappan, with an acorn in his hand
Running here and there all around the square, saying catch me if you can.

He led them down the streets downtown past Gibson's and Ben Franklin
Past a con student who on her back carried a violin!
Now Frosty the Squirrel had to hurry on his way
Winter had arrived in Oberlin and he had to go away.

Thumpity thump thump thumpity thump thump
Look at Frosty go!
Thumpity thump thump thumpity thump thump
He's so white that he could glow!
